Use of the South Carolina Birding Trail

MISSION STATEMENT: To gather and distribute information about natural areas on an internet site so that responsible access to those areas is encouraged in a way that does not damage the ecosystems and allows the greatest number to observe nature.

ORGANIZATION OF THE SITE: South Carolina has four recognized regions (Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate). The natural areas are listed within the region in which they are located. There is a map of the regions under the Regions menu. The areas can also be searched by name.

USE OF THE SITE: The site intends to provide overall information about natural areas in South Carolina. Advanced birders will use eBird  (https://ebird.org) to look for the location of hotspots and certain birds. This site does not try to duplicate or replace that function. This site is for the casual birder and nature lover interested in finding natural areas to view birds and experience nature. Please do not rely on specific information from this site. After finding an area of interest, do further research, including calling the area administration directly, to verify the status of the area.
